Tiruchengode is spread across 316 square kilometres. The city is reputed to have been a business centre with robust economy.

Prior to Independence, Tiruchengode was a panchayat. This was converted into a corporation, and inaugurated on 01.04.1965 by the then Home Minister of Tamilnadu, Sir Mr. Majeeth. Beginning with the 18 wards the corporation grew into 25, with the present number of wards at 33.

Tiruchengode is well connected to all parts of Tamilnadu, especially Erode, Karur, Namakkal, Rasipuram, Sangagiri and Salem.

Tiruchengode is connected by train to Erode and Sangagiri. It is just 9 kilometres from Sangagiri railway junction.
